The 5 Things You Must Know About Your Fertility

1. When a woman starts working with me who is thinking of trying to get pregnant in the near future I advise her to do is to take some fertility tests.

2. This will of course depend upon whether or not she is currently on the contraceptive pill, has had contraceptive implants or a coil fitted, any fertility testing would give a masked reading in this case, however, once the body has had a couple of natural menstrual cycles to readjust it’s hormone balance.

“Your hormone balance readjusts after a couple of menstrual cycles”

3. It’s good to have a general check up with a gynaecologist to make sure the smear test is up to date, to obtain a hormone profile and a Anti-Mullerian Hormone test however I feel it’s important that should not be taken in isolation.

4. Ask your mum how easily she conceived, talk to your sisters and allow your mind to focus on your fertility. Personally I think fertility should be taught in high school to both boys and girls primarily to make them aware that sexually transmitted diseases can affect their fertility in the future.

5. If you are in a relationship at the moment it is very important to get a sperm test as if this is left till later it could mean a woman has undergone tests, invasive procedures or medication unnecessarily.
